Product Photography at Matsuda
For my first year and a half at Matsuda, I personally shot the majority of the brand’s product photography. Staying true to Matsuda’s philosophy of treating all content as fine art projects, I developed a meticulous studio process that emphasized light manipulation to achieve the brand’s signature aesthetic.
The Process
Shot every product in studio with consistent lighting and staging.
Developed a three-angle standard for each frame: pedestal, front, and profile.
Directed teams of retouchers to refine and finalize imagery.
Ensured that every image reinforced the brand’s high-art positioning.
Scaling the System
As the brand grew, I trained and mentored an in-house graphic designer to take over day-to-day shooting, while I transitioned into a creative director role—managing stakeholders, maintaining quality control, and ensuring new releases adhered to the visual standards I established.
Outcome
The photography system I created allowed Matsuda to consistently present its eyewear collections worldwide with a fine-art visual identity, supporting everything from social media and marketing campaigns to wholesale presentations and trade shows.
